Momemusic

William Wilson, the main person developing Momema, has a passion for game design and programming, but these are not his only talents. He has been a classical guitarist and guitar teacher for over two decades, and has been playing music since his childhood. The musical skill he has gained over this time has allowed him to write an interesting and exciting soundtrack for Momema, and we are very excited to give you a taste of his work.

Momema's Home Screen

When you open up Momema's home screen, you are greeted by the game's theme: Wetomo. This piece is warm and comfortable, with a blanket of mellow synthesizers flooding over you as you look at your progress and decide on a level. However, underneath this layer of calm, an insistent piano works with a clock to provide energy to the song, and hint at the frantic speed-based nature of the game.

Level 1, very fun!

The next song in the game, Match Time, uses this clock sound in a very different way. Since this is the theme of the first level, the clock provides a sense of urgency, but it is carefully kept back to a slow pace so that it does not cause panic. This ticking sound, in combination with plucking strings and beeping synths, also create a rhythm that allows the player to "get into the groove" of searching the screen and finding matches.

Level 3, cool as can be!

The theme for the third level and the final song we will be looking at today, Allegro no troppo, is an electronic western rescore of Anton Dvorak's piece of the same name. This theme uses rhythm similarly to Match Time, but in a way that better fits the western theme of the level. First, the piano provides a quick beat for a soft synth to dance around. Then, the synth trades places with the piano, and the clock makes a subtle return. This process is repeated with different synths and subtle variations to make a theme that captures the peace and danger of the old west at evening, all in a way that is distinctly Momema.
