Speed is Key
Momema, on the surface, seems like a very simple game, where all you have to do is find a match, like in this picture below:
Seems easy, right? Well, try to find a match in the next one:
Not as easy, huh? That's because there's a special ingredient to Momema's gameplay loop: speed. Momema began life as an educational game (and we still plan to create an educational version) where the focus was on making a game that was fun, and then fine tuning it to be educational as well. At first the idea was to see how long someone could go without making too many mistakes, then how many they could get right in a row, before we settled on speed as the determining factor. It just made more sense, and it was different than what other educational games were doing.
Now that Momema is a more competitive game, we still think speed is a good way to challenge players, but we also realized that we'd need something for players to strive towards. After all, its one thing to play a game just to barely squeak past, but its another thing to play it excellently. Speed ended up being perfect for both goals, and now we have an accomplishment players can get: Rocket Badges.
Whenever you click on a match in Momema, you change your average speed. If your average speed over the last three matches was slow, you get a red turtle. If it was medium speed, you get a yellow rabbit, and if you were fast, a green car. However, if you manage to get to a ridiculous speed and keep it up for three matches, you get a blue rocket. If you can win the level now that you have a blue rocket, you get a Rocket Badge, and that is stamped on the level forever as a sign that you have conquered the level.
So, make matches fast, beat levels, get Rocket Badges, and show the world that you're a master of Momema!
